While the state of Kerala and its people suffer from devastating floods which have killed at least 324 people, its Minister for forest and wildlife protection is attending a conference in Germany, reports News18.
Raju is a MLA from the Punalur assembly constituency, who hails from the Communist Party of India (CPI). He is said to have gone to attend the 11th Global Conference organised by the World Malayalee Council from 17 to 19 August. As a result of his decision to fly abroad, Raju has come under severe criticism from the people.
Thus owing to the controversy, the state CPI leadership has now asked him to return. The report claims that such an action has displeased his state party leadership.
As per a New Indian Express report, he has been accompanied by Indian Union Muslim league leader and Member of Parliament (MP) from Ponnani - Mohammed Basheer, and CPI’s MLA from Pattambi Mohammed Muhassin.
The report claimed that Raju had taken permission from his party for going to the conference but the final decision on whether to fly out, rested with him.
Raju is expected to return to India within two days.
