While the celebrities and intellectuals rush to support the violent protesters of Jamia Milia Islamia against alleged police brutality, a video has emerged on social media showing Students Federation of India (SFI) members in Kerala brutally beating up an ABVP member for speaking in favour of the Citizenship Amendment Act.
SFI is affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and is considered to be the largest student organisation in India with 43 lakh members as of 2014 -2015, as stated on its website.
In the video, one can see a mob attacking a lone student, kicking him and punching him ceaselessly.
The incident happened Wednesday morning at 9.30 a m. Three ABVP members were taken to a private hospital in Thrissur with serious injuries, reports Mathrubhumi.
Reportedly, the ABVP had tried to organise a seminar within the campus, but wasn’t allowed to after the opposition by SFI and ABVP had to organise a seminar outside the campus, by the road.
Protesting the denial of the permission to organise the seminar, ABVP called for a strike today. Then, the SFI members dragged ABVP members from their classrooms and started attacking them. The girls who tried to separate the two groups were also injured.
Several SFI members including former chairman are accused by the victims. The video is clear enough to identify the perpetrators. It remains to be seen whether the ruling party in the state takes any action against its own student wing members.
