Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested four neo-Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists from Kolkata today (25 June). JMB is an official affiliate of ISIS.
One of the four ISIS terrorists is a Indian national and the other three are from the banned Neo JMB which is an ISIS affiliate which orchestrated the Holey Artisan Bakery attack in Dhaka, reports DNA.
Neo-JMB is a breakout faction of JMB, which have accepted Bayʿah (Pledge of allegiance) to ISIS. The name of the Indian national arrested by the SIF is Robiul Islam and the other from Bangladesh are Mohammad Jiaur Rahman, Mamonur Rashid and Mohammad Sahin Alam.
Two of the ISIS terrorists were arrested from the vicinity of Sealdah Railway Station’s parking lot in Kolkata and the police found a mobile phone containing photos, videos, jihadi text, and literature.
Robiul Islam the lone Indian along with Md. Sahin Alam was arrested from Howrah Station. Robiol Islam is an Indian national and lived in West Bengal’s Birbhum district and member of the banned terrorist organisation involved in harbouring as well as recruiting and collecting fund from India.
The three arrested Bangladeshi nationals crossed the porous border between India and Bangladesh to escape arrest. A lot of digital documents, videos and audio files along with Jihadi booklets were recovered from possession.
Their aim was to build their organisation and create a network of jihadists who will wage war on the democratically governments in India and Bangladesh and establish Sharia law under a Caliphate.
