The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of Lashkar-e-Taiba, is said to be behind the brutal murder of three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members, including a district youth wing leader, on Thursday (29 October) night.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) Vijay Kumar has confirmed the involvement of TRF in this attack, India Today reports.

The trio of Fida Hussain, Umer Hajam and Umer Rashid Beigh were travelling in a car at Eidgah in Y K Pora village in Qazigund at 8:20 pm on Thursday.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that terrorists fired upon three BJP workers -- identified as district youth General Secretary Fida Hussain Yatoo, Umer Rashid Beigh and Umer Ramzan Hajam -- at Eidgah Y.K. Pora, injuring them. They were shifted to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead," a police officer said.

The terrorists opened chaotic firing at them and the three workers were confirmed to be dead on arrival when taken to a local hospital. PTI has reported that TRF claimed responsibility for this assassination. Threatening similar attacks in the future, the group declared, “crematoriums will get overbooked.”

Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha has assured that stern action will be taken against the concerned criminals. “I strongly condemned the killings of political workers by the militants in Qazigund area of South Kashmir. Perpetrators of violence are enemies of humanity & such cowardly acts can not be justified; Law shall take its course & the guilty shall be dealt with sternly” Sinha tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the killings and referred to the deceased workers as bright youngsters who were doing excellent work in the union territory.
