Two policemen and a Doordarshan cameraman were killed in a second major attack of the week in Maoist affected Dantewada, in the poll-bound state of Chattisgarh.
The DD team, which was accompanying the security forces on routine anti-Maoist operations, were caught in a crossfire.
Abhishek Pallav, the Dantewada Superintendent Of Police, said the deceased cameraman Achuyatanand Sahoo, belonging from Odisha, was a part of a three-member DD team. The two jawans killed were identified as assistant sub-inspector Rudra Pratap Singh and a constable Mangal Ram.
The three other security personnel who sustained injuries were admitted in the Dantewada Hospital and their conditions are stable. They were offering security to the DD team when Maoists open fired. DIG P Sunderraj said that other forces were removed and the area has been cordoned off, as reported by New Indian Express.
The first attack happened on Saturday when four jawans were killed in a Maoist attack at Basaguda in the strife-torn Bijapur district of Odisha.
The Election Commission will be facing a tough challenge of conducting a peaceful election, with the Maoist calling a boycott and rebel’s violence marring it. The first phase having 190 candidates and covering 18 constituencies in the conflict zone will be held on 12 November.
