Lesson Learnt? CBSE Forms Three-Tier Security Layer To Ensure Papers For 2019 Board Exams Do Not Leak

As the CBSE board examinations for classes X and XII are set to begin on 15 February, the board has introduced a three-tier security check to ensure the sanctity of the exams in view of the notorious paper leak last year, reports Times of India.

CBSE reportedly conducted a web-workshop for schools holding the exams. It would also, for the first time, involve students appearing in the examinations.

Question papers sealed in different sets, and witnessed by different people at various stages, would be sent to schools. The three levels of seals would ensure there are no leaks.

According to the report, the papers would be handed over to the schools under CCTV coverage and countersigned by the collecting person. The set would then be unsealed in front of the CBSE observers and two other examiners.

However, the final seal of the examination papers would be opened in the presence of students in the examination hall. As an extra safety measure, CBSE has also asked that two students witness the opening of the seals of the question paper. However, the students chosen to be a witness should be at random and they will never be called again as witness.

Further adding to the security measures, the board has asked the invigilators to be adequately informed of the process.

The process would ensure that there is no leak. Keeping a strict check on the paper distribution, the board has also developed an app that has to be updated with details such as the location of the paper collection.

Last year, CBSE received a lot of flak after two papers - class X Mathematics and class XII Economics paper were found leaked. The board re-conducted the Economics exam.
