Liquor Stores In Delhi’s Eastern Part Closed After Police Finds People Violating Social Distancing Norms

Delhi police on Monday (4 May) got all the liquor shops closed in the eastern part of the capital after the social distancing norms were violated at the stores, Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range), Alok Kumar said as per an ANI tweet.

All the shops were opened only today as the third phase of coronavirus lockdown starting 4 May eased the curfew restrictions and allowed the liquor stores to open in orange and green zones. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines had mandated social distancing to be followed at all places.

“All liquor shops in eastern range that were opened today have been closed as social distancing norms were flouted at those shops: Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range), Alok Kumar #Delhi,” ANI tweeted.

Earlier, videos had emerged on internet from various parts of the country where people could be seen flouting social distancing norms at liquor stores.

In many cases people were seen queuing up without leaving any space between them in parts of Delhi and Chhattisgarh, thus flouting the mandatory social distancing norms put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

In a video from Delhi’s Kashmere Gate people could be seen queuing up without following the mandated norms, thus resulting in a lathi-charge from the police.

Various social media users slammed this flouting of mandatory social distancing norms and expressed fears of lockdown gains being hampered as a result.
