A local ward councillor Mohammad Khurshid in Bihar’s Vaishali village and three of his associates have been arrested for first threatening a mother and daughter duo with rape and later tonsuring their heads for protesting against it, Hindustan Times has reported.
As per the report, around six people had barged into the victims’ home to try and rape the teenage daughter. After her mother tried to fight them. the attackers assaulted the two and dragged them out of the house.
“Around 6.30 pm, half a dozen armed men forcibly entered my house and attempted to rape me. When my mother tried to save me, they started beating us”, the daughter was quoted as recounting her harrowing experience.
Later, as per station house officer (SHO) posted at the Bhagwanpur police station, a panchayat was convened where the councillor ordered that the heads of the mother and daughter be shaved. They were also paraded across the village.
A video of the incident went went viral on social media and in a resulting police action Khurshid and three others have been arrested in connection with the incident.
