Veteran actress and former Member of Parliament (MP) Jaya Prada has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday (26 March). She was inducted into the BJP by party general secretary Bhupender Yadav and media cell head as well as Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni, ANI has reported.
Speaking on the occasion, Jaya said that it is an "important moment" in her life. "I am a part of national party, and I am in a party, where the leader leads on issues of national security,” Jaya said, as reported by NDTV.
"Whether it is films or politics, I have always worked with everything I have," she said
According to the report, Jaya made her political debut in 1994 with the Telugu Desam Party but quit later due to political differences with party chief Chandrababu Naidu and joined the Samajwadi Party (SP).
As a member of the SP, she represented the Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh twice in the Lok Sabha in 2004 and 2009, reports NDTV. However, she was later expelled from SP on account of alleged anti-party activities.
