Mahakumbh Of Science: Indian Science Congress 2019 In Punjab Attracts Six Nobel Laureates And 30,000 Scientists

The 106th edition of Indian Science Congress (ISC) in Jalandhar, Punjab is all set to begin on Thursday (3 January), reports India Today. The event is being inaugurated by Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi.

This congregation of some of the best scientific minds of the country and beyond will run from 3 January to 7 January 2019. Over 30,000 delegates will participate in the five-day event at Lovely Professional University, where it is being held.

The Congress, organised by the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), has the focal theme of ‘FUTURE INDIA: SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY,’ for this year.

Hosting over 100 conference and events, the Congress will “provide platform to researchers, academicians and industry champions to share their findings with the scholars zealous to excavate scientific findings and also to instigate budding science and technology enthusiasts to do meaningful extradition for ever-growing industry need and sustainable socio-economic system.”

Six Nobel laureates, including German-American biochemist Thomas Sudoph, Hungarian-born Israeli biochemist and Nobel laureate in Chemistry Avram Hershko and British born physicist Frederick Duncan Michael Haldane, are expected to attend the conference.

“Government’s aim is to deliver the benefits of Science & Technology to the last man in the society and scientists being a pivot should put their heart and soul into finding new solutions to the problems facing the nation and improve the quality of life of common man,” said Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Science and Technology Minister, in his message.
