Maharashtra Trust Vote: Maha Vikas Aghadi Crosses Halfway Mark, Fadnavis To Ask Governor To Suspend ‘Illegal’ Session

BySwarajya Staff

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikar Agadhi alliance of the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress, has comfortably crossed the halfway mark with 169 MLAs in support in the trust vote held today in the Maharashtra legislative assembly in Mumbai, reports News18.

This happened even as BJP MLAs led by former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis proceeded to stage a walkout, condemning the session as illegal and unconstitutional.

"This assembly session is not per rules. This session started without Vande Mataram. It is a violation of rule," Fadnavis had said.

He also opposed the holding of a trust vote without the election of speaker first. BJP's Maharashtra unit chief Chandrakant Patil has termed the changing of the pro tem speaker to be legally wrong.

The BJP also claimed that the oaths taken by ministers of the new government were unconstitutional and that the party was only informed at 1 am that the trust vote was going to take place, and because of that its whole strength could not attend the session.

Fadnavis has stated that he will request Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to suspend the proceedings of the assembly.
