India automobile major Mahindra Group’s Italian subsidiary Automobili Pininfarina has taken the wraps off Battista, the all-electric hypercar that goes from 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds.
The company states that Battista is “the most powerful road-legal car ever designed and built in Italy.” It should be noted world-renowned hypercar brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini are also based out of the same country.
In a € 168 million deal, Mahindra acquired a controlling stake in the company in 2015.
According to Pininfarina, when Battista arrives in 2020, it will be faster than a Formula 1 car and capable of breaking the 250 mph top speed barrier. Also, all of this power will come from an electric engine with a potential zero emissions range of over 300 miles.
"This is the most authentic and exciting automotive story imaginable. The Battista is the hypercar of the future, inspired by a legendary past," said Automobili Pininfarina CEO Michael Perschke.
The company will produce a maximum of 150 Battistas with equal allocations between North America, Europe and the Middle East/Asia. Pininfarina is already taking applications and each Battista will cost approximately $2.2 million.
