Mamata Govt Turned Blind Eye Towards Tablighis Leaving For Bangladesh, Despite Lookout Notice: Bengal Governor

BySwarajya Staff

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has accused the Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government of turning a blind eye towards Tablighi Jamaat members leaving for Bangladesh, despite having a lookout notice against them, Economic Times has reported.

The foreigner Tablighi Jamaat members had flouted India’s visa norms.

As per Governor Dhankar, 19 Tablighi members left Kolkata on a bus for Bangladesh via the Haridaspur check-post. At the border authorities noticed that they had a pending lookout notice against them and were subsequently detained.

He adds that the Tablighis were being kept at a quarantine centre in Kolkata and were ordered by DCP Crime, New Delhi to appear before it in seven days. The Tablighis though instead took a bus to go to Bangladesh before being eventually stopped at the border.

The Mamata government has thus been accused of “dishonouring” Centre’s lookout notice and ignoring instances of Tablighis trying to leave India for Bangladesh. Trinamool has reportedly denied the allegations while claiming that all rules are being followed.
