Mangaluru Cops Arrest 50 People From Kerala Who Posed As ‘Mediapersons’ And Attempted To Enter A Hospital With Weapons

At least 50 men and women who had arrived by the Kerala train were arrested by Mangaluru police for trying to enter the city by posing as mediapersons, Daijiworld reported.

Unable to produce identity to be mediapersons, a group of 50 men and woman from Kerala allegedely attempted to enter Wenlock hospital with weapons and cameras but police foiled their bid.

ToI quoted Mangaluru city police chief PS Harsha as saying that police has detained several people from Kerala who entered the city in the guise of journalists and fomented trouble.

“We are verifying their antecedents and if they had any role to play in the violence,” Harsha said, adding, police will take legal action against all those who indulged in violence and aided in the spread of lawlessness.

Mangaluru city is on high alert after violence broke out in few parts of the city as angry Muslims mobs went on rampage.. At least two people were confirmed dead during protests.

The city police has restricted entry to the city and are allowing people to enter only in emergency cases. Police are also strictly examining the people and vehicles entering the city from Kerala border.

Mobile internet service is completely shut in Mangaluru, and the planned disruption is likely to will continue until December 22 .

The city is presently peaceful without any untoward incidents but protected with the heavy police force.

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday (Dec 19) said that the violence that took place in Mangaluru city during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 was orchestrated by few people from a neighbouring state, Kerala.
