Maoist terrorists today attacked and killed five policemen in Jharkhand’s Saraikela district, reports The New Indian Express. The incident took place when 15 bike-borne insurgents arrived in Kukdu village on motorcycles and started shooting at the police personnel.
The weapons of the policemen were also snatched away from their bodies by the Maoists; the fatalities include two sub-inspectors.
“The incident took place at around 6:00-6:30 pm when the police team were standing near a temple at the local weekly market at Kukdu village under Tiruldih Police Station in Sariakela. Maoists, in plain clothes, suddenly started firing. The driver, who was in the police jeep, escaped unhurt,” said ADG (Operations) and Jharkhand Police Spokesperson M L Meena.
Security forces have launched search operations in order to find the insurgents who were responsible for the attack.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raghubar Das referred to the incident as a cowardly attack and added that the Naxal insurgency was taking its dying breath in the state.
