MEA To Establish Special Kiosks To Assist Emigrants At International Airports In India

Departure points at all international airports will be receiving special kiosks for emmigrants, PTI has reported. According to a top Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official, the plan to install the kiosks is to assist emigrants facing last-minute problems before they board their flight.

Secretary of the Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) division in the External Affairs Ministry, Dnyaneshwar M Mulay told reporters that the kiosks would be the last chance for emigrants to clear uncertainty about their employers and issues like their contracts. He adds Mumbai and New Delhi international airports will receive the kiosks first.

He says the kiosks will be guidance, resource and assistance centre for emigrants who are confused before boarding their plane. “If they have any last minute problems, last minute advise that they wanted to seek that will also be available to them right before their departure at the departure point,”the official said.

Mulay, who is also the secretary Overseas Indian Affairs (OIA) was inaugurating the Attestation/Apostille services at Kochi's regional passport office. Speaking about the Emigration Act, 1983, Mulay said it has become “outdated in many ways” because of a change in global emigration patterns since 1983. He added the government is in the process to replace it with a new emigration policy.
