Minority Appeasement, But Selective: Sikhs Shocked As Congress Names Kamal Nath MP CM Despite His Role In 1984 Riots

The Congress leadership has come under extreme criticism from multiple quarters for choosing Kamal Nath, who allegedly participated in anti-sikh violence during the 1984 riots, as the Chief Minister (CM) of Madhya Pradesh (MP). Nath is accused of leading a 4,000-strong mob near Gurdwara Rakabganj in New Delhi during the riots, an attack in which two Sikhs were burnt alive.

Senior advocate of the Supreme Court and Aam Aadmi Party leader, H S Phoolka, who has spent years fighting court battles for victims of the 1984 riots, stated that there was ‘strong evidence’ of Kamal Nath’s role in the riots, reports The Indian Express. He lambasted the Congress for rewarding him instead of punishing him.

According to The Tribune, Akali Dal MLA from Delhi Manjinder Singh Sirsa had earlier threatened of nation-wide agitations if Kamal Nath was chosen as the MP CM. He had also demanded that Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh resign from his post if Nath was chosen.

BJP leader from Delhi, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, took to Twitter to announce his intention of going on an indefinite fast-unto-death if Kamal Nath became CM.
