The Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Union Cabinet on Monday (6 April) approved an ordinance under the Members of Parliament Act, 1954 to give a 30 per cent salary cut for all Members of Parliament including Union Ministers for a period of one year starting 1 April.
As a result all allowances and pensions of MPs stand reduced for the financial year 2020-21.
The cabinet also decided that all Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds will remain suspended for a period of two years and the consolidated amount of Rs 7,900 crore would be used in managing the coronavirus pandemic.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu and various state Governors have also volunteered to take a 30 per cent pay cut.
