BySwarajya Staff

The MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) has begun laying tracks on Andheri to Dahisar Metro line-7 elevated corridor, Rail Analysis has reported.

The metro track-laying work began on 16 June near the National Park and will continue for 2-3 days and the civil work is expected to be completed by November this year as per the information provided by MMRDA.

This is a significant development as It will provide inter-connectivity among the existing but over crowded Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).

It will also allow for a smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Andheri, JVLR and Dahisar. The 16,475-km long Metro line-7 will have 13 stations and it is most likely to be completed on time by mid-2020.

The rails have been imported from Japan and according to a senior official from MMRDA the rails were transported from Wadala yard using a 70 feet trailer to the site.

According to officials of MMRDA trial runs will start in early 2020 and the route will have 13 stations.
