Mumbai’s Harbour Line Hit During Peak Hour: Overhead Wire Snag Stops Services Between Belapur And Panvel

BySwarajya Staff

An overhead wire snag temporarily stopped services between Mumbai’s Belapur and Panvel which forced commuters to face a tough time on Harbour line of Central Railway on Thursday (27 December), reports Hindustan Times.

The snag occurred just before the peak hour when maximum commuters rush to their respective workplaces. The morning peak timings on the suburban network start as early as 8 am and goes on until 11 am.

There was a problem of power supply between Khandeshwar and Panvel stations owing to which the zonal railway had to suspend services to Panvel from Belapur, as per the Central Railway.

“Due to OHE (Overhead Equipment) problem between Khandeshwar and Panvel, harbour line services are delayed. Work to resolve the problem has already started,” said chief spokesperson of the Central Railways, Sunil Udasi.

The Central Railway thus decided to run special services to cater to the rush. Commuters are being either forced to take a bus or auto-rickshaw due to the absence of suburban locals.“The station is heavily crowded, but there was no train,” said Ramesh Gaikwad, a regular commuter.

Besides providing suburban connectivity to the Western suburbs up until Goregaon, the Harbour line provides connectivity to South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
