As the holy month of Ramzan is about to commence form 24 April, Union Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has asked the people from Muslim community to offer Namaz (Muslim prayer) at their homes to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The Minister urged the people of the community to refrain from going to mosques and eidgahs, news agency ANI tweeted.
“Since these are adverse and tough times, most countries of the world including Islamic nations such as Saudi Arabia have also prohibited events at religious sites such as mosques and large religious gatherings, Naqvi said in the video.
The Minister also informed that he had held meetings with many Muslim clerics and the representatives of all Waqf borads in the country and had asked them to request the community people to offer prayers and have iftaar events homes.
India has seen a significant surge in the coronavirus cases in past few days, despite the nationwide lockdown being in place. At the time of writing this report, the total number of reported cases in the country stood at 9,373, as per India COVID-19 Tracker, including 334 casualties.
