N R Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for working hard to reduce corruption and said that his continuity as Prime Minister would be a good thing for the country, Economic Times has reported.

Murthy, in an interview with ET Now, spoke about how the corruption levels in the central government had decreased significantly under Prime Minister Modi’s regime.

"PM Modi and his cabinet have worked very hard to reduce corruption at the Central level. I rarely hear a complaint of corruption at the Central government level,” Murthy said adding that on the issue of the Rafale deal, he won’t make any opinion without data.

Murthy, when asked about lack of execution and implementation in Goods and Service Tax (GST) and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), said that It was improper to hold PM Modi responsible for execution as the bureaucracy was responsible for it.

He further said that Indians “must be grateful that there is at least a national leader of Modi's calibre who is interested in improving India.”

“Looking at the last five years, I feel that having a leader who is focussed on the nation, focussed on discipline, cleanliness and economic progress is a good thing. Continuity of government would be a good thing." Murthy added.

Murthy, when asked about the recent clashes between the government and institutions such RBI and CBI, said that both of them have their priorities and each is doing what is legitimately their mandate, adding that he was hopeful of them coming forward with some sort of solution.
