Snubbed after former Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan was granted re-entry to the upper house by the Samajwadi Party (SP), former SP leader Naresh Agarwal has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The announcement by the seven-time MLA from Hardoi came at a press conference in New Delhi.
Agarwal, known for his controversial remarks, including his remark associating gods and goddesses with alcohol, has dumped Samajwadi Party a year after its defeat in the assembly polls. Twitterati reacted to the move with angry reactions and some humour as well.
While Agarwal has earned an opportunity to get back with the SP on being snubbed for the Rajya Sabha, BJP and its supporters, it seems, would have a lot to forgive and forget.
“I am joining the BJP as I think that until you are in national party, you cannot do anything for the society. I am also impressed by PM Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and UP CM Yogi. I still respect Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav, but the current scenario in SP where it is doing coalition with Congress and sometimes BSP is very sad,” Agarwal said at the conference, as reported by News18.
The move comes against the backdrop of upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in UP. With Agrawal switching loyalties, political math and activities in Lucknow will become more hectic.
