As the 7-day long `Nava Nirman Deeksha Programme’ of the Andhra Pradesh (AP) government -- to involve people in the development process by administering them an oath, while also taking feedback from them and solving problems – draws to a close tomorrow, officials in districts are an anxious lot.

Targets to reach out to people have been set for districts, with performance of districts being mapped and ranked statistically. Visakhapatnam is the last district as per performance on targets, reports Hans India, and the Collector has expressed his disappointment over the same. In a video conference yesterday, he urged the officials to improve their performance in the remaining two days, leaving no stone unturned in reaching out to the people – including organising games, distributing ration cards, pensions and assets.

Kadapa, Kurnool and Srikakulam were the other districts showing poor performance. CM Naidu has been moving across the state, addressing crowds, as part of the event. Midway through the programme, he had claimed that the public satisfaction over implementation of schemes and development programmes had increased to 80 per cent as per statistics.

The breakup of the satisfaction statistics that Naidu gave was - 57 per cent people expressed satisfaction on drinking water supply, 53 per cent on Polavaram works, 58 per cent on interlinking of rivers, 48 per cent on Neeru-Pragathi programme, 54 per cent on farmers loan waiver, 56 per cent on Rythu Ratham and Polam Pilustondi.

He said that the objective was to achieve 100 per cent satisfaction, and cautioned officials to identify and solve problems in their departments and visit villages to create awareness.

As per the Hindu two days ago, Buganna Rajendranath Reddy, Chairman of Legislative Committee on Public Accounts and YSRCP MLA had alleged that Rs. 13 crore of the taxpayers money was being squandered on the Nava Nirman Deeksha event, which amounted to a waste of time for people who were forced to attend and take pledges that meant little. He further said that Naidu was abusing it to promote himself and bash political rivals. Naidu is to proceed to Nellore tomorrow, June 8, to participate in the concluding session of the Deeksha.
