The National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials from Kochi conducted searches in ten locations in Tamil Nadu after the alleged conspiracy of a few youngsters forming a terrorist group, the New Indian Express reports.

The NIA found three laptops, three hard disks, 16 mobile phones and eight sim cards from the residence of Abdul Rasheed in Lalpet area of Cuddalore. Rasheed was not in his house when the search took place.

It is also believed that Rasheed had ties with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The NIA also raided other places in Muthupet, Keelakarai, Devipattinam, Lalpet and Salem, with connections to the case.

The group had also set up a WhatsApp group called 'Shahadat is our goal.' They also said that they had 'terrorist motives'.

The NIA in 2018 had mentioned that the group was trying to get hold of arms and raise funds to create an armed struggled and help terrorists get a release from jail, "...they wanted to propagate their ideology and act against the State."

The nine suspects were arrested, and later, released on bail, the NIA said in a statement. The case had ten suspects, but the NIA was able to apprehend only nine suspects, as the tenth suspect had reportedly fled.
