NIA Team Reaches Sri Lanka To Investigate Links Of Indian ISIS Modules With Easter Sunday Bombings

In a bid to investigate the possible links between the Easter Sunday attacks that rocked Sri Lanka and the two busted Islamic State (IS) modules that were discovered in India, a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka, reports The Indian Express.

The team of two NIA officers led by an Inspector General rank officer is trying to investigate the link between two ISIS modules it had recently broken up and the mastermind of the bombings that killed 258 in Sri Lanka, Zahran Hashim.

The development is significant given Hashim has spent a few months in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and had met several young men before carrying out the massive attacks across and around the capital city of Colombo.

It should also be noted that on 29 April the NIA had also arrested a youngster planning to carry out suicide bombings inspired by Hashim. In 2018, the NIA had also arrested a few men in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu for allegedly being members of the IS. On the phones of one of those arrested then was found a provocative video of Hashim in which he had hinted at big attacks in the future.

It was based on this information which was further developed by the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) of India that Sri Lanka was given intelligence about an impending attack on churches and hotels.
