More than 10,000 restaurants have been delisted by food delivery companies like Zomato, Foodpanda, Swiggy and UberEats after Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) gave a strict directive asking these food delivery e-commerce sites to delist all the unlicensed and non-registered restaurants, Times of India has reported.
FSSAI in a statement has said that it has found that Swiggy has delisted 4,000, Zomato 2,500, UberEats 2,000 and Foodpanda has delisted 1,800 partner hotels and restaurants from their respective platforms.
Earlier, the FSSAI has issued a directive for these companies to comply with its order by 30 September.
“These food aggregators have been directed to share the list of delisted Hotels/Restaurants so that action can be initiated against the defaulters,” FSSAI said.
It also said that the list can be shared with enforcement machinery of the state for non-compliance of the food safety regulations.
FSSAI has issued the order in the wake of many complaints that the food being supplied through these platforms by hotels and restaurants is substandard.
A checklist of compliance had been shared by FSSAI with the food delivery platforms so that they can refer them to the hotels and restaurants for internal food safety audits.
Some food delivery companies have come together to train and certify supervisors of hotels and restaurants based on the checklist.
