Real World Too Cruel For Ahimsa? Leopard Kills Meditating Buddhist Monk In Maharashtra Forest 

In the forests of Maharashtra’s Tadoba, a meditating Buddhist monk was killed by a leopard, reports Indian Express.

Rahul Walke, the deceased, had been meditating in the forest of a tiger reserve. Forest officials have already warned monks against venturing into the forest. But the monk had gone further in, than the temple he wanted to visit, to meditate.

Tadoba forest is a habitat of 88 tigers along with leopards, sloth bears, hyenas and honey badgers.

A hunt has been launched to capture the animal. GP Narawane, forest official, spoke with BBC Marathi, saying, “I would like to tell everyone not to go inside the forest. We have set up two cages and a camera trap. We will try to tranquilise the animal once it is spotted.”

Another monk who visited the same temple to give food to Walke at the meditation spot, claims he saw a leopard attacking him. However, by the time he reached, Walke was dead.

The Devendra Fadnavis government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 12 lakh for the bereaved family.
