The IRCTC ( Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) has said that from February, one can get travel insurance of Rs 50 lakh for free, if one buts tickets from their portal, reports Times Of India.
IRCTC is the e-ticketing and the catering arm of Indian railways but also offers air tickets. The chairman and MD (managing director) of IRCTC said that the insurance scheme would be available to all air travellers, both domestic or international, irrespective of the class ticket.
The officials said that around 5,000 to 6,000 air tickets are booked through IRCTC at present. While a processing fee of almost Rs 200 per ticket is charged by private travel portals, IRCTC charges the same services for only Rs 50 and does not even impose any cancellation charges. The officials said that the agency is going to offer hotel bookings as well through its portal.
Air India and Indian Railways earlier tied up to provide a 17 per cent discount to customers of Maharaja Express travellers on Air India tickets.
