India’s smartphone industry is set to see approximately 302 million mobile handsets to be sold in 2019, the highest that will be seen in a year, New Indian Express has reported. The prediction was made in a report published by a consulting firm named techARC.
The report, from the research consulting firm, expects Chinese smartphone brand, Xiaomi to continue its lead in the overall smartphone market.
Out of the 302 million mobile handsets, the report estimates 49.3 per cent (149 million) sales to be smartphones, 18.2 per cent (55 million) to be smart-feature phones) and the rest 32.5 per cent (98 million) to be feature phones.
Founder and Principal Analyst, techARC, Faisal Kawoosa, in a statement said, "There is a large replacement cycle due in 2019 for users who bought their first 4G smartphone between 2015-2017.”
The report says various prominent brands like Xiaomi, One Plus, Nokia, Asus, Realme and Google are expected to grow in their sales as compared to 2018. The report expects sales of Samsung, Honor-Huawei, Oppo and Vivo to remain flat. The release adds that it is not expecting signs of the reversal of falling sales of homegrown brands witnessed in 2018.
The sales estimates are based on the internal projections of techARC, which were validated by various value chain users, channels, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as component suppliers.
