Pakistan And China Worst For Religious Minorities: US Report

BySwarajya Staff

In the 2019 annual report on religious persecution on minorities published by United State, China and Pakistan continue to remain in the US blacklist, reports EurAsian Times.

Even though there are mass protests going on in India after the Parliament passed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), India continues to impress with its secular and democratic image as per the report.

Rights groups and US officials have openly accused China of illegally incarcerating nearly one million Uighur Muslims in concentration camps which the Chinese call re-education camps.

The annual blacklist report on religious freedom violations by the State Department focuses on “countries of particular concern for having engaged in or tolerated “systematic, ongoing, egregious violations of religious freedom”.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in a statement said,“On 18 December 2019, the Department of State re-designated Myanmar, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan as Countries of Particular Concern.”

The report has also designated al-Nusra Front, al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, al-Qaida, al-Shabab, Boko Haram, the Houthis, ISIS, ISIS-Khorasan, and the Taliban as groups that play a very important role in religious persecution for “egregious violations of religious freedom.”
