Pakistan: Islamist Clerics Demand Death Penalty For Minor Hindu Girl Who Renounced Islam Alleging Forced Conversion

BySwarajya Staff

After minor Hindu girl Mehak Kumari retracted her previous statement in the court, where she had said that she wasn’t forcefully converted, a section of radical Islamists and clerics in Pakistan issued open threats to her on media, reports Times Now News.

The girl has now alleged that she was forcefully converted to Islam, causing a widespread furore among the Islamic fanatics who now are demanding death penalty for the minor girl who they say is a culprit of insulting Islam.

In an interview given to local media channels in Pakistan, one of the clerics can be heard saying that they will demand punishment for everyone involved for the act of Apostasy. Further, he also added that they have rejected the probe and proceedings of Sessions Court and have already moved to the high court.

Additionally, they will also go to the Shariat Court if the girl is not brought to justice in a manner they want.

Earlier, she had confessed of wilfully embracing Islam and marrying a Muslim man name Ali Raza and denied any external pressure behind the act.

The remarked however invited widespread protests and condemnation by the minority Hindu community in Pakistan which said that a nexus between Moulvis and government officials was the reason behind frequent cases of forced conversions and selective targeting of Hindu girls which were happening all over the country.

Her parents also said that her confession should not be accepted and added, “Pakistani law doesn’t give voting right to minor, they can’t get driving license, then how could it accept a minor’s statement of willfully embracing Islam and marrying a Muslim man without consent of her family?”

Notably, Mehak, a girl from the minority community, was kidnapped from the Jacobabad district in the Sindh province on 15 January, converted to Islam and forcibly married to a Muslim man.
