Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday, September 17, announced the government’s decision to slash fuel prices by Rs 2 a litre. This decision comes immediately after Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Bengal governments have taken the initiatives to reduce the prices of fuel in their respective states.
AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has reduced taxes by Rs 2, Mamata Banerjee by Re 1. As reported in the Economic Times, Kumaraswamy who is leading a coalition government between the JD(S) and Congress has told, "Today, this coalition government has decided to reduce both petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre."
The increase in fuel prices have been noticed since mid-August, and most of the BJP ruled states have taken steps to cut taxes, to relax duties imposed on petrol and diesel prices. Earlier last week, the opposition even organised a ‘Bharat Bandh’ in three states accusing the Modi government of citing international factors associated with the rise in prices.
The highest fuel rates have been said to have observed in Maharashtra, and the lowest is in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar.
