Plea Filed In SC Against Appointment Of Justice Gogoi As Chief Justice Of India

BySwarajya Staff

A plea has been filed against the appointment of Justice Ranjan Gogoi as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI) which the Supreme Court is expected to hear on Wednesday. The petitioners have objected to Justice Gogoi’s elevation on the basis of his participation in the 12 January press conference by four senior judges of the Apex Court expressing concern in respect of some of the actions of present CJI Dipak Misra.

The petitioners have stated that “this act of the four senior-most judges of the court was no less than a sabotage to the judicial system of the country. They tried to arouse public furore in the country in the names of certain internal differences in this court”.

The petitioners believe that Justice Gogoi was guilty of having committed judicial impropriety and misconduct and therefore should not be rewarded with an elevation to the prestigious post of CJI.
