Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on the dawn of the new year according to multiple media sources. He is likely to thank the people for their overwhelming support to his demonetisation drive launched on 8 November.
With an aim to cleanse the country of black money, PM Modi had made a clarion call in November to support him in his initiative. He had asked for 50 days and declared that the cash situation will return to normal by the end of the year. According to some estimates, it is expected that the RBI would’ve have supplied 50 per cent of the extinguished currency to the system. Queues at the banks and the ATMs are also getting shorter.
Apart from thanking people, what will the prime minister talk about? Sources say he may declare the onset of the second phase in the battle against corruption, that is the war on benami transactions. Nonetheless, he has ruined the New Year’s eve party plans of the media fraternity. They will have to get to work on 31 the dawn of the new year.
