PM Modi Vows To Set Up Museum Dedicated To Past Prime Ministers, Their Contributions To Nation Building

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (24 July) said that a dedicated museum listing the contribution of all former prime ministers in nation building will be established in Delhi, reports Hindustan Times.

Releasing a book on former PM Chandra Shekhar in the national capital, Modi said that there has been a concerted effort by a set of people to belittle the contribution of several prime ministers who are deprived of the due recognition they deserved.

Resolving to correct this wrong, PM Modi said that he had decided to build a museum to list the contribution of former PMs in nation building.

"A prime mister is made to be known as the one who used to drink his urine... another one is known as sleeping prime minister…there are several such instances of belittling of other leaders too... This is a gross injustice to them," Modi was quoted in the report as saying.

Lal Bahadur Shastri escaped from being tarnished as he did not return alive from Tashkent, PM Modi said. “Had he returned India alive, this set of people would have systematically maligned his name too. He escaped this with his martyrdom," the PM added.

PM Modi did not mention names of the prime ministers of the Nehru-Gandhi family in his speech, and said that there was a design in putting many of the former prime ministers in poor light.

“But now I have decided that a dedicated museum of all former prime ministers will be established in Delhi,” he said. The Prime Minster also urged the family members of the former PMs to share things related to them for the museum.

The book titled, “Chandra Shekhar: The last icon of ideological politics”, is written by Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh, who also worked as an information officer in the PMO during Chandra Shekar's tenure.
