On Monday (5 November), a pastor was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl in Nagaland. The pastor, 60, was one among the two arrested in the case, with the other accused is a 35-year-old man. The incident allegedly took place in Karbi Anglong district of Assam. The latter was arrested because the crime was recorded and shared on social media sites.
Pastor Chandra Kumar Pradhan, the prime accused, had allegedly invited the victim to a garden near his residence and later fled after raping the girl. Pradhan is said to be fleeing since then and was arrested only recently.
Times of India quoted Swetank Mishra, the sub-divisional police officer as saying, “The girl did not say anything to her parents on the day of the assault. She told them on 31 October and they filed a complaint on the same day.”
The police officer informed the media that the accused pastor had been fleeing to different locations to avoid getting caught. He was finally picked up from a hotel in Kohima. Under the Indian Penal Code Sections, he has been charged for rape, and under the Posco Act, he has an aggravated sexual assault charge against his name.
