Quivers Cause Shivers: Probing Cops Flee Spot As Sentinelese Tribe Greets Them With Bows, After Death Of Missionary 

The US embassy in Chennai has called for an investigation into the death of American missionary, John Allen Chau, who was killed by the Sentinelese tribe in the Andaman islands last week. Locating the body has been a rather difficult task since the hostilities are similar to any newbie that visits the North Sentinel Island located in India’s Andaman and Nicobar.

On Sunday (25 November), a team of officers came across the tribe when they were on a quest to locate the body. Armed with bows and arrows, the tribe was ready to greet the police in their most indigenous way possible. The police spotted them from the boat about 400 metres off the shore. They promptly retreated, being well aware of the consequences.

In the past, two fishermen were killed after they accidentally sailed towards the island in 2006. Channel News Asia quoted Andaman and Nicobar Police Chief Dependra Pathak as saying, “We are studying the 2006 case. We are asking anthropologists what they do when they kill an outsider. We are trying to understand the group psychology.”

Seven people have been arrested so far, for taking the missionary to the island that has restrictions imposed on visiting it. The police are talking to anthropologists to help them out in understanding the tribe better.
