Following an Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) invite to former president Pranab Mukherjee to address its workers on 7 June, its affiliate, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has extended an invitation to former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor, Raghuram Rajan, to speak at the World Hindu Congress (WHC) later this year in Chicago, US, said a report in the Financial Express.
VHP leader Swami Vigyananand and spokesperson Vinod Bansal have confirmed that Rajan has been invited to the event as a speaker but a confirmation is still awaited.
"The World Hindu Economic Forum is hosting a conference where Rajan and other prominent economists across the world have been invited to throw light on the current state of the world economy," Bansal said.
Vigyananand, who is also VHP’s in-charge of the event in Chicago, said Rajan stays in Chicago and expressed confidence that he will surely attend the event. “An invitation has been extended to him, it is up to him whether to attend or not. He lives in Chicago and has been mentoring students after vacating the post of RBI Governor,” Vigyananand said.
The World Hindu Congress is being organised to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Swamy Vivekanand’s historic address to the Parliament of the World Religions on 11 September 1983.
