Indian Railways is all set to press its first Antyodaya rake into service, running them on a 16-coach train between Tambaram in the outskirts of Chennai to Sengottai in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, reports The New Indian Express. The train will run twice a week, and will feature only Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches manufactured by the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
The Antyodaya Express comprises entirely of unreserved coaches linked to each other via a vestibule that operates on overnight journeys. It was first proposed in the 2016 Railway budget by then Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu.
Along with this, Southern Railways will also launch its Utkrisht Double Decker Air Conditioned Yarti (UDAY) Express, connecting Coimbatore to Bengaluru in neighbouring Karnataka. The UDAY Express consists of completely air-conditioned doubcle-decker coaches and will complete the Bengaluru-Coimbatore journey in seven hours.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
