Rain Of Terror In Himachal: Flash Floods, Landslides Create Havoc

Himachal Pradesh has suffered heavy losses due to the ongoing rains. Sites of flash floods and landslides are common across the state, causing seven casualties and injuring three people. Many houses and vehicles were washed away, resulting in the evacuation of hundreds of people, reported the Times Of India.

The whole of north India is facing heavy rains, which resulted in 13 people being killed and Himachal is the most affected part. Out of the 12 districts of Himachal, 10 are badly affected by heavy rains. Rail traffic was halted on the World Heritage Kalka-Shimla rail line after landslides and falling boulders destroyed tracks.

Transport Minister of Himachal Govind Singh Thakur said that the state’s rivers and rivulets were flowing above the danger mark for more than two days, resulting in a flood-like situation and causing significant damage to various parts of the state. Damages are widespread across the state from Palchan near Rohtang Pass to Aut in Mandi district.

Authorities in Himachal Pradesh are engaged in evacuating hundreds of stranded people. Indian Air Force is also helping in the rescue work with its helicopters.

Manali, a popular tourist destination, is also facing connectivity issues as stretches of the road leading to the hill station, have been washed away by the Beas river at many places. Authorities have evacuated small passenger vehicles by building a temporary road link via Raison bridge.
