Reliance Jio GigaFiber: Scammers Claiming To ‘Activate’ Broadband Service, Lure Users To Provide Bank Details

BySwarajya Staff

Various people have received emails from scammers promising to activate the much-awaited Reliance Jio GigaFiber broadband service, Times of India reports. The phishing mail was structured in a way to give the impression that Reliance Jio itself was the sender.

The subject of the mail was “Gigafiber - Activation Request Received”, which came with a Jio Digital Life masthead. The mail also contained links to confirm the request and check for pricing and plans. It thus attempted to lure users to provide banking details in name of confirming their Jio GigaFiber subscription.

The scammers also successfully replicated the message with accurate font colour and style which Jio uses, making the mail look authentic. Scammers are trying to trick users at a time when Reliance Jio is expected to release the highly awaited broadband service in the upcoming company annual general meeting on 12 August.

Given the popularity and wait for the Reliance Jio Gigafiber service, it is easy to trick people, and hence online users have been cautioned to first verify the authenticity of emails before proceeding.
