Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghachalak, Mohan Bhagwat, on Friday (1 February) said that the Ayodhya dispute has reached a decisive stage, and advised supporters of the Ram temple movement to be patient for the next few months, reports Times of India.

“The Ram temple is on the verge of being built. So we must tread cautiously,” Bhagwat stated at a conclave organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) at the Kumbh Mela.

He cautioned those campaigning for the temple to not be sidetracked from their goal and stated that they should increase awareness surrounding the issue. He added that if required, there must be an expression of anger.

He gave a time limit of six months, till when it would be best to only observe developments, but stated that after the period was over, “We all should ensure” the start of temple construction.

Bhagwat also praised the BJP-led NDA government for its Citizenship Bill which would allow non-muslim minorities fleeing neighbouring countries to become Indian citizens.

He advised voters to elect those representatives who would build a Ram temple.

The two-day meet at which Bhagwat was in attendance was presided over by the head of Janmabhoomi Nyas, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das.

The VHP conclave comes on the heels of the Central government petitioning the Supreme Court to release the ‘surplus land’ near the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site to the original owners.

At a prior meeting in Prayagraj on the Ayodhya dispute, Puri Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati had taken a much more hardline position on the issue, stating that a ceremony should be conducted at the dispute location on 21 February to mark the start of the temple’s construction.
