RSS Training Camp In Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam Pelted With Stones; Six Suspects Arrested

Tamil Nadu police have taken six individuals into custody for allegedly pelting a training camp organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with stones in Mayiladuthurai town of Nagapattinam district on Sunday night (12 May), reports The Hindu.

Around 72 workers of the RSS were in attendance at the camp when the incident took place; the complaint with the police was filed by the coordinator of the camp, and the accused individuals have all been sent to judicial remand.

It is not yet clear what was the exact motive behind the attack, although Hindu groups and their workers in Tamil Nadu have often found themselves at the receiving end of violence.

Over the years workers from the likes of Hindu Munanni, a popular Hindu organisation in the state, have even been killed for mobilising to protect Hindu cultural identity. Most recently, a functionary of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), V Ramalingam was murdered by suspected Islamic fundamentalists for opposing conversions of Dalit Hindus to Islam.
