The imposition of section 144 means that no movement of the general public would be allowed and all educational institutions would remain closed. The administration has asserted that no public meetings or rallies would be allowed while the restrictions remain imposed.
As per various reports, internet services have also been curtailed in the state.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik is said to have taken part in a midnight meeting with top bureaucrats including the Chief Secretary, DGP, ADG, IG and others. Security and law and order situation is being monitored closely across the state.
Senior Kashmiri politicians Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have also been placed under house arrest, which led to a sharp protest from the duo.
Abdullah took to twitter to send a foreboding message to his followers and prayed to Allah to save him.
Similarly Mufti tweeted, “In such difficult times, I’d like to assure our people that come what may, we are in this together & will fight it out. Nothing should break our resolve to strive for what’s rightfully ours”.
