Senior journalist Kanchan Gupta has been appointed as the Chairman of Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF) by the central government.
Following his appointment Gupta affirmed that his special goal would be to work towards ensuring equality of access to knowledge via a virtual library. He would take over the mantle from the current chairman - Professor Brij Kishore Sharma.
Currently a distinguished ORF fellow, Gupta was also part of the PMO during the Vajpayee regime.
RRRLF an autonomous organisation financed by the Ministry of Culture supports and promotes public library services in the country which includes grants to various libraries in the country.
Established in 1961, RRRLF consists of 22 members nominated by the Government of India from including eminent educationists, librarians, administrators and senior officials.
Besides promoting public libraries, RRRLF also develops District Youth Resource Centres (DYRC) in collaboration with Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sangathana.
