As counting of votes in the current Lok Sabha elections continues across the country, the BJP-JDU combine again seems to be on the verge of a stellar performance in Bihar, where it is facing off against a Mahagathbandhan of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress and several other parties.
In the state’s Siwan constituency, which has a sizeable minority population of Muslims, the JDU’s Kavita Singh is leading against the RJD candidate Hena Shahab. Interestingly, Shahab is the wife of convicted criminal and former RJD MP from the constituency Mohammad Shahabuddin.
On the other hand, Kavita Singh is the wife of a leader of the Hindu Yuva Vahini in Bihar, Ajay Singh. The group is well known for having been founded by current Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
