Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a rally in Kanchipuram on Wednesday (6 March) said that the Central government is strongly considering a proposal to start in-flight announcements in Tamil, Deccan Herald reported.

These announcements would be made for flights to and from Tamil Nadu.

It was reported a few months ago that Airport Authority of India (AAI) had mandated all non-silent airports to make public announcements first in the local language followed by Hindi and English.

During the rally, Modi also announced that the Chennai Central Railway Station would be renamed after former Tamil Nadu chief minister MGR.

This rally was part of a public meeting organised by the AIADMK-BJP-PMK combine which has announced an electoral alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and assembly bypolls.

In an earlier public rally, Modi had asserted that the Central government is creating a reform-oriented, people-friendly economy to the dreams of C Rajagopalachari, fondly remembered as Rajaji.

Modi also attacked the Congress by alleging that the party promoted an economic culture which just helped the friends and families of dynasties.
