BySwarajya Staff

Ten metro stations in Bengaluru are likely to be integrated with the proposed suburban rail project for the city, reports Metro Rail News. According to the revised detailed project report (DPR), both length and number of suburban stations are reduced to avoid overlapping of the two rapid transport systems.

State-owned engineering firm RITES, in the yet-to-be-approved DPR, has proposed 57 suburban railway stations covering 148 kms. In the revised DPR, at least 24 stations have been dropped, and the number of elevated stations are also reduced from 31 to 22. The DPR has to be approved from the state and Railway board.

According to Amit Garg, who is heading the special purpose vehicle B-RIDE to execute the suburban rail project, the DPR has been submitted to NITI Aayog, following which the proposal would go to the cabinet to receive funding.

With land acquisition alone taking two years, the DPR has set six years to construct the project. “Operations may not start anytime before 2026,” a senior Railways official said.

The metro stations (existing and proposed) which could be integrated with the suburban metro network- Majestic, Yeshwanthpur, Kengeri, Cantonment, Whitefield, KR Puram, Baiyappanahalli, Jnanabharathi, and Nayandahalli.
