A long-time banker and President-elect Donald Trump’s national finance chairman during the election, Steven Mnuchin is tipped to become secretary of the treasury, Daily Caller News Foundation said today (30 November), quoting a New York Times report.
Mnuchin has served as chairman of Dune Capital Management, a hedge fund he founded in 2002. He worked at Goldman Sachs for 17 years, in addition to working at Soros Fund Management and co-founding OneWest Bank Group.
Mnuchin, who has worked on Wall Street, has beaten billionaire Wilbur Ross to the post. Ross, who was economic adviser to Trump, and made his fortune working in distressed asset management, is expected to be named secretary of commerce, CNBC said.
He has had a Hollywood stint as well, when he financed major blockbusters like Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men, Daily Caller News Foundation said in the report.
He said the job offer wouldn’t take anyone by surprise, as he had earlier indicated that he would most likely be chosen for an administrative role.
